Life and Death Near Ground Zero

I live very close to ground zero, or one of many the Russians have said they are targeting in response to Trump’s decision to place intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe.

If Putin’s hypersonic nuclear missiles—launched from submarines near US territorial waters—are unleashed, my family and I will be toast.

The White Sands missile testing range is located on the east side of the Organ Mountains, less than twenty miles from where I live. Then there is Holloman Air Force Base, about seventy miles north of here. I should add the Fort Bliss army base in El Paso, about fifty miles east.

A couple years ago, Russia unveiled the Satan 2 Super-nuke (RS-28 Sarmat) to replace its SS-18s. The Satan 2 warhead is 40 megatons, around 2,000 times more powerful than the atom bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the Second World War.

A larger Russian nuke at 50 megatons called Tsar Bomba, or Mother of all Bombs, was tested in October 1961. The mushroom cloud reached over 40 miles into the stratosphere and the fireball was five miles in diameter. A village  located 34 miles from the blast site was completely destroyed. Heat from the explosion could have caused third-degree burns 62 miles away from ground zero and a shock wave was observed in the air at the Dikson settlement 430 miles away.

The geopolitical idiot Trump has talked up “modernizing” the US nuclear stockpile with a new generation of “usable” nukes with dial-a-yields. This prompted the Russians to develop a new generation of nukes, including the Satan 2, and hypersonic delivery vehicles (five times the speed of sound).

In a morbid way, my family and I are lucky—we will be vaporized and probably never know what hit us. The same cannot be said for much of the rest of the country. Millions of Americans will die slowly from radiation sickness and starvation during a nuclear winter.

You might conclude that the ultimate fate of humanity after a nuclear exchange would put a damper on this nonsense. Sadly, this is not the case. Trump is surrounded by psychopathic neocons who view nukes as simply another hammer in the exceptional and indispensable nation’s toolkit.
