In my exchanges in the twitterverse, I have experienced a remarkable degree of ignorance concerning the history of Iran and Syria.
MAGA supporters, in particular, seem clueless.
Iran hates us, they insist, and they want to wipe Israel off the map. Plus they are trying to get the capability to attack us with nukes, so that’s why we have to attack them first.
I mentioned the CIA coup in Iran, ousting the democratically elected leader of that country, as part of the reason they hate us.
One MAGA guy was unaware such a thing happened.
I imagine he gets all his information from Fox News, which never puts anything about Iran or Syria in context. Fair and balanced, right?
CNN and MSNBC are about the same, although they hate Trump, so there might be token resistance to invading Iran.
If Hillary had won, though, they’d be gung-ho and skepticism would arise at Fox. That’s how uniparty diversion works.
The depth and severity of political and historical programming through government, institutional, and corporate propaganda is simply astounding.
Overthrowing Iran’s government and the US installing a brutal Shah and his secret police are completely off the radar.
So, when that day finally arrives—the day when Trump reads the teleprompter telling us he has unleashed missiles and a sustained air campaign against Iran—the American people will not have a context to put things into perspective.
That task is left up to us, the Russian bots, the snowflakes who appease new Hitlers.
Of course, the American people are tired of war, and when polled say they’d rather not get involved in neocon wars, but once the bombs start flying and the flags come out and the media pounds the drums of unquestioning patriotism, they will fall in line, as usual.
The masters of war know this.
Hermann Goering, Hitler’s Reich-Marshall, put it into perspective:
Naturally, the common people don’t want war, but after all, it is the leaders of a country who determine its policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliamentary system or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifist for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.
